What is Big Data and why this term is incredibly noisy?

Have you ever stopped to think about the amount of data we generate daily? Or have you ever think, why are companies increasingly betting on Big Data solutions?

To answer these questions, it needs to understand what Big Data is. The concept of Big Data is describing as large volumes of data that impact daily business, for this reason. The first definition comes up with (Gartner Inc., 2015) which describes Big Data as a technology to process a high volume of data, with high speed and of various natures. This concept deals with the process of identifying and interpreting this data to offer different strategies.

What is coming after the data collected?

After all of this data collected, there is a need to develop and improve techniques and tools capable of handling storage, processing and presentation of that data. (SAS Insights, 2019). Do you agree that this data needs to be used intelligently? Its need to understand and extract knowledge from the large dataset is a challenging but essential process for organizations that deal with that information.

Big data is not limited to a company's data, but all data that can generate valuable information, essential for decision-making and actions. According to the report (SAS Insights, 2019), Big Data solutions enable companies to map and understand their consumers fully. Moreover,  by optimizing their processes: 1) cost-saving, 2) reducing time, 3) the development of new product and optimized offerings, and 4) smart decision making 5) understand the market.

In conclusion, Big Data is the concept that covers not only the data that is collected but also the way that it will be used for a given purpose and guide action to business.
